VPS New York

VPS New York, Hudson Street, not Jersey.

Linux VPS hosting from New York City (Hudson Street carrier-hotel cluster) as opposed to from New Jersey. We utilize high-performance AMD EPYC nodes that are run with NVMe RAID10 storage and ECC memory, all hosted 100% within the United States.

Why New York

The interconnection capital of North America.

NYC is the interconnection capital of North America. New York hosts the largest internet exchange in Europe by member count at NYC carrier hotels. Single-hop to most EU consumer networks and shortest path to all major European audiences from here.

01

Hudson Street carrier hotels

Hudson Street carrier hotels: Thousands of networks peer at NYC carrier hotels (Hudson Street carrier hotels) to reach EU ISPs, CDNs and content networks in single hop fashion (avoiding third country routing).

02

Sub-15 ms RTT to EU capitals

London, Frankfurt, Paris, Brussels and the rest of the Nordic Countries are all within sub-15ms of New York.

03

EU data jurisdiction

US Datacenter Jurisdiction, by default all Customer and Operational Data remains within EEA until opted in to Cross Region Replication.

04

Transatlantic gateway

The contrast to the highly transparent US datacenter sector is stark, however. For example annual PUE figures for NYC facilities are often publicly disclosed along with the percentage of servers that are running on renewable energy, and the overall renewable energy mix of the grid in NYC is high and low PUE.

Network

Multi-homed transit. Public ASN.

In our Amsterdam region we have multi-homed access to several Tier 1 providers and also within NYC we have peered with many other ISPs. You can find our public ASN in your customer portal, all of our plans include IPv6 as well as IPv4.

Built for

Workloads serving North American users.

US East SaaS platforms

Multi-tenant SaaS platforms with customers in US East and Eastern Canadian locations. The peering depth and EU jurisdiction provide a means to address latency and compliance respectively.

E-commerce backends

Online store fronts and online checkout APIs, for customers in US East, Eastern Canada and LatAm countries that are close to the North American Continent, such as Costa Rica and Panama (the "LatAm-North corridor"), within a single digit round trip time (RTT) to major US East cities.

Mail infrastructure

We use Postfix / OpenSMTPD for mail relaying. Our server has strong sender reputation and we can set up rDNS for the server. As usual, we can flip on outbound mail service for you after reviewing your configuration.

GDPR-sensitive data

Personal data of US residents are kept under the US residents' jurisdiction. Operational logs, backups and snapshots for systems processing personal data of US residents are kept in-region by default.

EU API backends

US East servers running a mobile and web app backends for US East users (p50 latency matters. US residents). Multi-homed transit on the edge.

Mirror of US workloads

Deploy primary workload in New York, have a hot replica in New York for EU traffic. The same plans, same API and same price in either city to run your US workloads.

FAQ

Common questions

Where exactly is the New York datacenter?
Our New York VPS runs out of a Tier III equivalent datacenter within New York City on Hudson Street in the carrier-hotel cluster, whereas most VPS hosting providers that advertise New York VPS hosting actually host their servers in New Jersey.
What latency can I expect to other US East cities?
Boston: 5-8 ms. Philadelphia: 4-7 ms. Washington DC: 7-12 ms. Toronto: 10-15 ms. Montreal: 8-14 ms. These figures are based on our datacenter location only and do not account for the variable routing that your own ISP would take to reach the desired destination.
Why does in-NYC matter when most providers are in NJ?
The Hudson Street location and the surrounding carrier-hotel cluster is the densest interconnection point in the US East. Inbound long-haul transit as well as many submarine cables land within a few blocks. Many NJ-based datacenters are a hop further away from this interconnection hub than an in-NYC location.
Is my data subject to US law?
Yes. The New York region is US jurisdiction. If you are storing information on behalf of customers and they require information to be stored only in the US, the New York region is the correct region to use. All data associated with a server in the New York region is stored in the US and operational data and backups remain in the region by default.
How does New York compare to Amsterdam for transatlantic workloads?
Latency for traffic crossing the Atlantic is around 75-90 ms over the public internet on a path from New York to Amsterdam. For workloads primarily serving US East customers, a US East region such as New York generally provides better latency than Amsterdam. For EU workloads, Amsterdam generally provides better latency than New York. The common pattern is primary in your audience region and mirror in the other.
What hardware runs in the New York region?
The servers in the New York region are identical to the servers in Amsterdam: AMD EPYC Milan for Standard and High Memory servers, and AMD EPYC Genoa for Dedicated CPU servers. Standard and High Memory servers use DDR4 ECC memory and Dedicated CPU servers use DDR5 ECC memory. All servers use NVMe RAID10 storage.
Can I get a static US IPv4 from New York?
Yes. Every VPS comes with one IPv4 address. You can set up reverse DNS for this IP address as needed. Additional IPv4 addresses can be added after review by our team for allocation.
Is outbound mail allowed from New York?
Like all IP addresses on the internet we allow you to send mail out from the VPS, but sending is limited to protect the IP address from abuse. If you have a legitimate reason for relaxing these restrictions on mail sending, we can adjust them for you.
Does the New York region have its own status page?
Yes. Region-specific status updates and maintenance windows are published on the status page for the New York region. Most maintenance for the New York region happens on Sundays from 02:00 to 06:00 EST. If there is an emergency, we announce the cause of the issue as soon as possible.
Can I deploy primary in New York and mirror to Amsterdam?
One account, one bill for all regions. One control panel for your VPSes in all regions. Primary server in a region close to your audience plus mirror in another region for failover is the most common way to use multiple regions.
