What cheap usually hides

The cheap-VPS playbook, and what we refuse to do.

Most of the "cheap" VPS offers on the internet are marketed as "cheap" because they have removed a few features from the basic offer and these additional features will cost you separately later on. This is how every BuyVPS offer is actually being structured.

Renewal price

The first-term trap

Headline price for term one, then it doubles on renewal.
The price you sign up at is the price you keep, for life.
CPU

Oversold cores

One core sold to ten tenants, so it stalls under load.
A guaranteed share of AMD EPYC, with dedicated-core tiers when you need them.
Virtualisation

Container in disguise

OpenVZ or LXC sold as a "VPS", sharing one host kernel.
True KVM with your own kernel, full root and real isolation.
Storage

Spinning or shared disk

SATA SSDs or throttled storage that crawls at peak hours.
NVMe RAID10 measured at 122,959 random read IOPS, published.
Fees

The bill after the bill

Setup fees, paid IP addresses and surprise overage charges.
No setup fee, IPv4 and IPv6 included, clear plan pricing.
Memory

Non-ECC consumer RAM

Cheap desktop memory where silent bit-flips corrupt data.
Error-correcting ECC memory on every node, as standard.
Cheap, not slow

Less money, the same measured hardware.

Just because something is cheap does not mean it is a good deal. The results presented are the median of 5 runs per test and all commands, data and results are publicly available so you can verify the results for yourself before spending a dime.

The entry plan

The cheapest plan that is still a real server.

Note that our entry level VPS isn't a trial version (limited time, stripped of features). The VPS runs on the same KVM platform as our other servers, it uses the same NVMe RAID10 storage that we use for the larger VPS and reseller plans as well as the servers, and it's on the same network as the rest of the servers. And, as always, you can scale up as needed at any time.

Standard VPS-4
Entry VPS
16,80/mo

2-yr contracts are our standard, but we also offer them on a monthly basis as well as 1-yr. The price is the same in Amsterdam and New York.

What is in the box

  • True KVM virtualisation
  • Dedicated resource share
  • NVMe RAID10 storage
  • ECC memory
  • Full root access
  • IPv4 and IPv6 included
  • All major Linux distros
  • No setup fee
Cheap to start, cheap to keep

Pay less, and keep paying less.

We do not define 'cheap' as a low introductory price which never gets seen again. You choose how long you want to pay for a server and pay as you go in the best way for you.

No renewal hike

The price never jumps

No first-term discount to reset later. No setup fee. No fee for IP addresses. Go month to month or pay lower monthly fee with 1 year or 2 year terms.

Your locked rate will remain fixed for as long as you hold the plan.

Pay your way

Cards, bank transfer and crypto

We offer payment by creditcard, SEPA direct debit, iDEAL, bank transfer as well as various cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. We keep our monthly fees at a low rate and do not bind you to a contract of extended duration.

Paying with crypto

Where it runs

Same low price, both sides of the Atlantic.

You can set up in Amsterdam to cover the EU area and connect to AMS-IX, or you can choose New York for faster speeds across North America. Either way, the equipment and cost will be the same.

FAQ

Cheap VPS questions, answered.

How can a cheap VPS still be reliable?

By initially offering the new plans at very low prices, we are not using less powerful servers. We use exactly the same hardware as for the larger plans: AMD EPYC processors, NVMe RAID10 storage and ECC memory. The servers are running as KVM virtual machines, just like for the larger plans. Our cost efficiency is based on running a lean operation and offering transparent and honest pricing as opposed to selling fully used machines as is common with overselling.

What is the cheapest plan?

The entry Standard VPS starts at 16,80/mo on a 2-year term, with monthly and 1-year terms also available. See the plans page for the full list of sizes and current pricing.

Will the price go up when I renew?

We do not charge a renewal hike and there is no setup fee. The price that you sign up for is the price that you will pay for the life of the plan. In Amsterdam and New York it will cost you the same.

Is it managed or unmanaged?

Cheap plans are unmanaged by default, so you keep full root control. If you would rather not handle maintenance, you can add the optional Managed service on the service page for OS updates, monitoring and proactive support.

Can I pay with crypto or Bitcoin?

Payment with credit card, SEPA direct debit, iDEAL or bank transfer is possible as well as payment by cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. A short commitment period of one month and a low interest rate as well as very low fees apply.

Can I start small and upgrade later?

Yes. Start with an entry plan and then scale up to larger Standard, Dedicated-core or High-Memory plans as required. No rebuild of your server is required.
